Unit 1 – Chemistry Essential Outcome #1 Students are introduced to atomic structure, the Periodic Table of the Elements and ionic and molecular compounds. Text Sections 5.1, 5.2, 5.5, 5.8, 5.11 Essential Outcome #2 Students will learn to write and balance chemical equations and to identify types of reactions. Unit 2 – Ecosystems Essential Outcome #1 Students will learn how living and non living objects interact in the environment. Text Sections 1.1, 1.2, 1.4, 1.5, 1.11, 1.12 Essential Outcome #2 Students will understand how matter cycles in nature and how toxins accumulate in organisms. Text sections 2.1, 2.2, 2.5, 2.11 Essential Outcome #3 Students will learn about the different biomes that exist in Canada. Text Sections 3.1 Essential Outcome #4 Students are required to do a project on an environmental issue. Text Sections 1.2, 1.3, 3.7, 3.9, 3.10, 3.11, 4.8, 4.9/4.10 Unit 3 – Physics Essential Outcome #1 Students will learn basic measurements and conversions and rearranging formulas. Text Sections 9.2 Essential Outcome #2 Students will understand speed and be able to use the formula to calculate distance, time or speed of an object. Also, they will draw distance-time graphs and analyze them mathematically. Text sections 9.5, 9.6, 9.7 Essential Outcome #3 Students will be introduced to acceleration and used the formula associated with it. They will also draw speed-time graphs and analyze them. Unit 1 – ChemistryEssential Outcome #1
